Create a Thing a Week: Week 3

I am so glad that I made the decision for myself to do this on a weekly basis. I was running around before just trying to come up with things to make, this makes it so much more feasible for me. Good thing also that it was the week of Valentines, perfect time for some homemade gifts.

I decided the boys would make Daddy a card, since they really are to small to really understand & it is a fun inexpensive way to introduce them to this lovely little holiday! I saw the original posting on Pintrest, of course, and just made it my own.

I simply used my Cricut to cut out different sized hearts and put them together using double sided tape.  A glue stick would have worked just as well, however the tape was  all I had.  You cannot tell in the picture, but there are little dots made with a sharpie on the muzzle of the pup to resemble whiskers.  I also used a larger sharpie to make the circle part of the eyes.

I had a couple of hearts left over so I thought I would make something else, which came in handy because I am going to turn it into a thank you card!

Create a Thing a Day: update

I have come to the conclusion that whoever came up with this craziness, has no kids or they have older children.   While I did my best the first week and all, I think I am going to do one "thing"  a week for the rest of the time.

As a mom with 2 little ones , this will be much easier for me and I will not feel like I am not living up to my craftiness.  I have some things planned for this week, so I will post about those with pictures!

OMG Mommy Moment #4

I had a couple I could pick from this week, I will go with the funnier one.  I have a pretty finicky 22 month old eater.  One minute he likes something the next he is spitting it out.  I have however managed to  find a couple of things that he really likes.  Spaghetti is one of those, plus it is pretty easy to make for lunch.

I was getting lunch together, had the noodles boiling and was going to get the sauce out of the fridge, it is rare that I get the chance to do this without holding my 8 week old.  I grabbed the sauce & poured into the pot, as I was putting the top back on the sauce I read...Pizza Sauce!  WHAT, really, did I really just do that, yes, yes I did.  I tried to doctor it up to see if he would eat it anyways, but that did not work at all!  Oh well, just went back to the fridge and got him a corndog.  Stupid is all I could think.

Create a Thing a Day: Day 7 & 8

So for day number seven, I did not get anything completed, so in all fairness I will not post about it.  I started several things, but it was a I need to be held all day long kind of day.  Be honest I am surprised I have even stuck with it this long.  I guess unlike a diet, it's fun so it makes me want to accomplish something.

Day eight I am finishing something that I started yesterday.  I created a playlist on my iTunes for my husband.  Something I have been meaning to do for a long time now.  Valentines it right around the corner & I am trying to decide if I get him a new iPod or use an old one that I had.  I now have an iPhone, so everything I need is right there.  I am thinking with what he wants it for, my old one will do just fine.  Plus it has taken me sometime to get this playlist together, all without him knowing it.

Create a Thing a Day: Day 5 & 6

I am putting day five and six together because to be very honest I didn't create anything yesterday.  Not that I did not want to, but with a 8 week old and a 22 month old, there is not much time in the day.  I did however manage to make two things this morning all by accident.

I saw something on Pintrest, this will be a normal thing for me as my addiction to Pintrest is very bad, for a quick and easy breakfast oatmeal.  You basically put the ingredients is a coffee mug and put in the microwave (click here if you would like to try).  As simple as that sounds, the taste was quite the same, bland and simple.  I was not a fan, so I dumped it out and decided to fix myself something else.  I had some blueberry nutragrain waffles, but I really wanted a little more blueberry flavor (I am not a fan of raw blueberries) so I made a sugar free blueberry syrup to add to my waffles.  It was very yummy.  I took a handful of blueberries and put them in the microwave for one minute and then added to my syrup.

Then what I had planned on creating today was cranberry chicken salad made with greek yogurt.  I got the original recipe from Pintrest (click here for recipe), but changed a couple of things.  I do not like celery, so I always leave that out!  I also used cranberries infused with cherry flavor and last I did not have any pecan but had sliced almonds with pomegranate flavor that I used.  Tasted it and it is super yummy, I cannot wait to eat it for lunch!

Create a Thing a Day: Day 4

While most of my family lives right here within a few miles of each other, there are some that have moved to other states.  I am good with sending Christmas cards, but I seem to forget all the other holidays that come around.  I would love to get cards in the mail for those, I know most people don't have time for that, but I decided that yesterday Jase & I would make time.

My cousins sons 7th birthday is this week, we saw them by accident when we went out to eat & were able to spend a little time with them, they are one of the ones that live in another area.  So I thought to myself since we don't really send presents anymore I could send a card.  So Jase & I created a cute little birthday card!

Create a Thing a Day: Day 3

I have fallen in love with this website called Emily Bites, no it's not Pintrest!  I like trying new things in the kitchen, because we always seem to get in a rut and eat the same things over and over again.  I did find one of her recipes on Pintrest and then began to visit all the time.  She has a different way of preparing foods that are fun and I thought it would help get me almost 2 year old to eat a little better as well.

I have been stuck in this breakfast rut so I searched her site and found some Sausage, egg and Cheese Hashbrown "cups".  So this is what I created on Day 3, I know that it is not a craft per say, but I did have to make them & they are a "thing".  I changed a couple of things with the recipe because I a not a huge turkey sausage fan, but I made enough that I could eat them all week, just by warming them up, with 2 little ones it makes it much easier to grab and go!

Create A Thing A Day: Day 2

Although I am late posting, I did work on keeping up with the Create a Thing a Day. Day 2 I wanted to try something with breakfast. I had seen a pin on Pintrest (which will be a common thread) on heart shaped bacon. I had already taken another post from Pintrest and began to bake my bacon instead of cooking it in a pan. Let me just say how much better the bacon is this way, it is always cooked evenly & to the perfect crispiness.

Anyways, I was laying the bacon out and I was trying to do this without anyone seeing me, but of course that did not work out so well. My "try" for this bacon did not work, my husband came in the kitchen and saw what I was doing an it just totally threw me off. I also think that the bacon that I was using was crap, so it did not lay the way I needed it to.

So while I tried, this day 2 was a fail!

Create a Thing a Day...

A fellow facebook friend posted that February was Create a Thing A Day Month, for the entire month of February you are to create something a day. I am assuming it's something you normally would not do on a daily basis and then if you have a blog, you write post about what you have created. Pretty awesome I thought, however I wish I would have known about it before the month started.
Unaware of the Create a Thing a Day Month, my husband and I cleaned out his part of the closet so that we could donate some clothes. While I was feeding my youngest in the middle of the night, I saw a pin on Pintrest about a super hero cape made out of an old t-shirt(click here for tutorial), I thought I can do this because we just put a ton of t-shirts in a bag. So without knowing I totally made my first "thing" and let me just say that it was a hit! Not only did my son run around the house over and over again, but my husband did as well!

OMG Mommy Moment 3

This time my OMG moment did not really involve the kiddos, which is good, maybe they will soon go away! Then again maybe not, because then I would not have anything funny to write about every week. They always say laughter is the best medicine. So I was feeding the baby and my husband was in the kitchen, it was a nasty, cold, wet day so I was making some homemade veggie beef soup. I yelled out to him, hey will you please check on the SOAP! The soap, yeah the soap, I mean the soup, damnit. So now we have a running little joke this week about eating soap. Just another day of one of those DUH moments.

OMG Mommy Moment

I had a doctors appointment on Monday, so I was getting everyone ready. This is truly a task and I always struggle to get anywhere on time. I was getting everyone into the car & I normally put the baby in first, but this time I put Jase in. Then I put the baby in. I got a little ways down the road & then my heart sunk because I could not remember putting the baby in the car. I was just sure that I left him the garage & drove off! Thankfully I am not that crazy & I had put him in the car first. I guess being a creature of habit has also made my mommy brain worse, because I cannot break the routines without a freak out.

OMG Mommy Moment

Last week and really since I have had my second child, I have noticed that I forget things or do things that are a little out of the ordinary, silly or just plain dumb.   It could be lack of sleep or trying to get used to two kids under the age of two needing me it seems at all times!  So I have been calling these my OMG mommy moments & I seem to have them frequently, so I thought it would be nice to share them each week.

I was under the impression that these were supposed to happen to you while you were pregnant, at least that is what all the books tell you.  I was only ever tired while pregnant never absent minded, so here it goes...

I breast feed, so I had just began to feed baby "d" sitting on the sofa.  My husband & my son Jase where at the other end of the sofa, stacking blocks.  As I watched them, I thought to myself, where is the baby?  At that moment I got nervous because he was in the swing just a few minutes ago, so where is he now.  I thought about it scanning the room and then realized, well DUH he is attached to me right now!

True mommy moment.

Back at it...

So it is about two weeks into the new year and things have somewhat settled as far as the introduction to our new little bundle Declan, who picked a wonderful birthday 12.12.12!  As I am awake a lot in the middle of the night, my addiction to Pintrest has gotten even worse, with that said, it has also inspired me to continue on with this blog in the hopes that I can post things that will be valuable to other people and allow me to keep a creative outlet.

My hope is to inspire, there are several things that I am getting into that I hope to share.  New crafty projects, cooking(which is super scary for me) & being a stay at home mom.  So stick with me as I hope to share all that I have been up to lately.
